Oil on canvas, 30" x 40"
1928 Texas Wildflower Competitive Exhibition
Awarded First prize, Group 2: Ranch Life   Henry Keller, 'Ranch Life, Western Texas' 1928 [11K]

Ranch Life, Western Texas depicts a cowboy life in the 1920's. Keller, unlike many of the other artists in the Davis Collection, has stylized the images to create a patchwork picture. We see strong movement to the right and left of the composition, all of which is dissected by the vertical lines of the trees and the horizontal bands of the land and river. The images is of a thick, lush, and nearly abstract landscape, the trees heavy with leaf as they shade the cowboys and cattle. -RC
